Clayton County police say they have a description of one of the men who was involved in the fatal shooting of a teen girl Saturday night.

One of the men at Independence Park where Cherish Williams, 18, was shot was wearing a “red Nike hoodie that he had pulled tightly around his face,” Maj. Kevin Roberts said Tuesday at a news conference. “I believe it exposed possible long hair and dreadlocks.”

It is not known if this description is of the gunman.

Williams, of Jonesboro, was sitting in a car with two friends about 7:40 p.m., when three armed men ordered her and her friends to get out of the car and hand over their belongings, spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

Someone fired a shot that hit Williams, and all three armed men ran off. Williams died shortly after reaching a nearby hospital.

The friends told Channel 2 Action News they were listening to music when the men approached them.

“One put a gun to her friend’s head. One put a gun to my baby,” said Robin Reid, Williams’ mother. Reid said when the music stopped because the song was changing, the robbers thought Williams was calling police and they shot her.

Anyone with information should contact Clayton County police at 770-477-3513 or call 911.
