A Cherokee County man accused in the shooting death of his wife was indicted Wednesday, court officials said.

Darrell L. Eaker, 43, allegedly shot Audra Eaker with a semi-automatic handgun while they were in a car on Highway 92 in Woodstock in late December, according to the arrest warrant.

The Ball Ground couple were separated at the time.

Police called the attack malicious and unprovoked in the warrant, saying Eaker shot his wife five times in the face while she was driving, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Witness Kylie Morgan was walking toward the QuikTrip on Highway 92 when she heard the commotion and saw police respond to the scene.

“I saw four cars stopped and I heard loud popping, maybe about five or six pops and then people screaming to call 911,” Morgan said.

Eaker was indicted on charges of malice murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during an attempt to commit a felony and murder during the commission of a felony.

He remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and is scheduled for arraignment April 13, according to Cherokee County court officials.
