A 13-year-old boy with autism who was reported missing earlier Monday was found dead in a residential pool in Fayette County, the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page.

Javontay Reed left his Merrydale Drive home in Fayetteville about noon, Fayette sheriff’s Lt. Allen Stevens said in a news release.

The boy’s two older brothers, who are in high school, were taking care of Reed when he walked out of the home and disappeared, Channel 2 Action reported.

By 7:25 p.m., authorities said they found him in the pool after an “extensive search” involving more than 50 officials. A homeowner on Birdsong Lane found Reed at the bottom of the pool.

Reed’s mother was at work when she was notified of her son was missing, Channel 2 reported.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb asked for prayers for Reed’s family.
