A man accused of driving drunk destroyed a row of headstones in a Carroll County cemetery, police said.

Some of the stones in the graveyard near downtown Carrollton were more than a century old, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Police said 35-year-old Ray Antonio Baker ran a stop sign on Martin Luther King Drive and crashed into the graveyard March 19.

Carrollton City Manager Tim Grizzard said Baker’s insurance company should pay for the repairs.

“If that doesn't pay for everything, the city will certainly pick up the tab,” Grizzard told Channel 2.

Because of the dates of the headstones — none of which looked more recent than the 1950s — officials don’t think the families know what happened.
