Cobb County police hope a sketch released late Thursday will help identify the man responsible for assaulting a woman in the laundry room of an apartment complex.

The victim told police that on Jan. 24, she went into the laundry room of the Belle Chase Apartments on Bellemeade Drive, near Marietta, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce. When she walked in, a man sitting on a table tried to talk to her, Pierce said in an emailed statement.

“When the victim did not respond to the verbal advances of the suspect, the male physically began to fondle her,” Pierce said. “When the suspect attempted to disrobe the victim in a corner of the room, she attempted to flee, but not before being struck repeatedly on the face.”

After escaping, the victim told police she saw her assailant running toward the parking lot of a nearby Wal-Mart, Pierce said. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot-10, with a thin, athletic build, according to police. He is believed to be in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a royal blue knit cap with white designs and ear flaps. The suspect also had on bright green headphones, the victim told police.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit at 770- 499-3945.
