A Coweta County stunt pilot was able to walk away after crashing his small plane into a wooded area Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The plane went down near Chestlehurst Road in Senoia about 12:40 p.m., Coweta fire Chief Pat Wilson confirmed.

The pilot was the only person aboard. He was taken by ambulance to an Atlanta hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries.

“A witness said they heard an aircraft flying overhead and then heard it go down,” Coweta County Battalion Chief Mark Griffin said. “As they were searching for him, the pilot actually walked out on his own from the woodline. He had minor injuries and was bleeding from the face.”

Witnesses said they saw the aerobatic pilot performing stunts in the single-engine plane just before the crash, according to authorities. His name has not been released.

The plane was an Acroduster II SA750, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said. The FAA is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the crash, she said.
