A shooting in Cobb County that left a man dead Thursday happened at a different location, according to a police report.

Lakief Y'anray Evelyn, 27, of Lithonia, died after he and Randolph Marks were shot on the 1700 block of Terrell Mill Road and drove to an Exxon station in Marietta.

Police were initially unsure of where the shooting happened.

According to the report, officers found Evelyn and Marks with critical injuries in a car outside the gas station about 10:44 p.m. Thursday. They were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where Evelyn later died.

Police do not yet know a motive behind the shooting.

Both Cobb and Marietta police are working on the investigation, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

No other details were released.
