A man who hit a pedestrian Wednesday night in DeKalb County had a medical emergency and died, police confirmed.

A white BMW driven by a 32-year-old man struck a 57-year-old woman who was standing outside of her vehicle following a separate accident on I-20 westbound near Panola Road, DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

The driver of the BMW is believed to have suffered a medical crisis, causing him to hit the pedestrian, Campbell said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition.
