The state Department of Corrections is investigating an apparent “selfie” of convicted killer Jeffrey Hazelwood, which was posted on Instagram.

Electronic recording devices aren't allowed in Georgia's prisons. But state officials concede they are struggling to control the flow of contraband, such as cell phones, behind bars.

The investigation began after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked prison officials about the image.

In May, Hazelwood pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murdering two teenagers behind a Roswell Publix and was sentenced to life in prison.

Hazelwood, 21, is currently at Baldwin State Prison in Milledgeville, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
