Eight students who were stuck on a Six Flags Over Texas roller coaster as storms blew through the area have been rescued, authorities said.

The park's new roller coaster, "The Joker," malfunctioned and stalled Friday as storms rolled through, causing the students to be stuck on their backs, WFAA reported.

The rescue took over three hours, with all eight students successfully extricated by 3 a.m. Saturday, according to WFAA. No one was injured, authorities said.

The cause of the malfunction has not been determined yet, park officials said.
