Former eBay company says it’s hiring 1,250 seasonal workers in Georgia

A former division of online retailer eBay is planning to hire 1,250 workers for the Christmas season at two of its operations in Lawrenceville and Brunswick, the company said Friday.

The hiring by the suburban Philadelphia firm, called Radial, is part of an overall goal to hire 20,000 workers during the holiday season at 26 distribution centers and six call centers in the United States, Canada and Europe.

Radial, which changed its name from eBay Enterprise last year, said it plans to hire about 1,150 people for its Brunswick call center, which has almost 600 year-round workers.

The company is planning to hire about 100 workers for its distribution center in Lawrenceville, which is smaller than its Brunswick operation.

Ricardo Layun, Radial’s general manager of customer service for the North American region, said the pay for the seasonal jobs is “typically well above minimum wage,” but didn’t give specifics. He said roughly 20-30 percent of the jobs lead to year-round positions.

Radial got its start at eBay, which is best known as the online retail site where people can sell their baseball cards and other stuff.

But the company, which has about 7,000 year-round employees, serves Fortune 500 companies and other retailers such as Shoe Carnival and GameStop, and is no longer connected to eBay.

Private equity firm Sterling Partners bought eBay Enterprise last year and combined it with a similar Johns Creek-based company, Innotrac, that it had acquired in 2013 for about $107 million.

“We’re not selling the Beanie Babies for the guy who wants to clean out his garage. We help retailers with their e-commerce,” said Layun.

He said the company handles a wide range of customer service and shipping tasks for retailers, including taking orders, warehousing merchandise, shipping orders, handling complaints and monitoring social media to detect and help with customer problems.
