As school gets ready to start back in the metro Atlanta area, local districts still have plenty of job openings. More than 1,000 teachers are needed, but there are also many positions available for applicants with a wide variety of skill sets.
The following are some of the metro Atlanta school districts with the largest number of openings:

Atlanta Public Schools
Approximate number of openings: 66
From visual arts to PE, Atlanta Public Schools are looking for teachers for several subjects at the elementary, middle and high school level. Many other job openings, which can apply for online, have titles similar to what you might find in the corporate sector, so your skills may translate well even if you've never worked in a school setting. These include site manager, senior buyer and IT service operations analyst.

- Chick-Fil-A Bowl Play It Smart academic coach – works with head coaches, athletic directors and school administrators to help student athletes
- Investigator – Security – serves as the first-line supervisor for school resource officers and alarm response officers
Clayton County Schools
Approximate number of openings: 300
Plenty of coaching positions are open in Clayton County, including ones for swimming, basketball, soccer and track – all at the Elite Scholars Academy. You'll need to be a certified teacher on staff at a Clayton County school in order to apply.
Other interesting openings include the following:
- Audiologist – conducts audiological evaluations, manages hearing-impaired population, etc.
- Press operator – produces high-quality printed work requests
Cobb County Schools
Approximate number of openings: 300
Teacher positions – as well as paraprofessional classroom positions – are listed in everything from early elementary grades to high school physics. You'll also find openings for custodians, tutors and bookkeepers.
Other interesting openings include the following:
- Social worker – provides individual and group therapeutic counseling
- Program director, 21st Century Community Learning Center grant – supervises the development and implementation of this after-school grant-funded program
DeKalb County Schools
Approximate number of openings: 405
DeKalb has several openings for assistant principals as well as many available jobs for coaches. Secretarial positions are also plentiful.
Other interesting openings include the following:
- Teacher quality professional learning facilitator – helps coordinate and implement training and learning opportunities for teachers and retaining highly qualified teachers
- Student engagement coach – works with students and their families, school staff and community service providers to implement strategies for school success and completion
Fulton County Schools
Approximate number of openings: 45
Teaching positions include some that are beyond core academic subjects, such as dance, theater, and marketing. Other jobs are open for a principal and assistant principal, as well as counselors and school psychologist.
Other interesting openings include the following:
- Chief communications officer – responsible for developing, leading and executing a plan to publicize the district's educational programs and serving as the district's spokesperson.
- Cluster school nurse – provides leadership and support to ensure that all school nurses and other personnel are properly trained to provide optimum health services for all students and also provides these services.
Gwinnett County Schools
Approximate number of openings: 270
Positions for a high school track coach and a wrestling coach are open, as are many paraprofessional special education jobs. You'll also find many custodian positions open in Gwinnett County.
Other interesting openings include the following:
- Sign language interpreter – facilitates communication between students who are deaf and hard of hearing and their peers, teachers and other personnel.
- Homeless education specialist – ensures appliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, monitoring student progress, assisting in coordination of education-related support services, etc.
