Last month, Atlanta police arrested two teens for a car-jacking. One of the boys was no older than 16, yet he's well-known to authorities. Atlanta police say he's a repeat offender they've seen at least 16 times. Their level of frustration is obvious, as is the teen's track record. The thing is, he's not the only troubled kid in Georgia. There are thousands. Each an example of why the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (GDJJ) needs some quality recruits to somehow help our troubled kids get back on track.
From now until the end of the month, GDJJ is holding a series of career fairs throughout metro Atlanta, looking to interview candidates on-the-spot for work as a juvenile corrections officer.
"We're looking for mature, responsible adults and applicants with prior experience in corrections, military or law enforcement," said Georgia DJJ Commissioner, Avery D. Niles. "We're also hiring jobseekers with personal drive to become part of our team of committed juvenile corrections officers who are looking for the place to make their work count."
Tips for completing an application can be found online. In addition, candidates should bring copies of the following documents to the interview process:
• Compass scores (Reading: 70, Writing: 32)
• SAT scores (Verbal: 430, Math: 400) or ACT scores (Verbal: 18, Math: 16)
• Valid driver's license
• Birth certificate
• High school diploma or GED
• DD214 Long Form with discharge indicated
• Naturalization forms (If not a U.S. citizen)
• If P.O.S.T. certified, please bring two forms of government-issued identification and a P.O.S.T. profile.
Applicants with a four-year degree from an accredited college are not required to bring SAT or ACT scores.
